Problem
Berkeley Asset Protection, through its Lavalier business line, offers customers peace of mind through personal jewelry insurance policies. Although some aspects of Lavalier’s consumer-facing business were online, the user experience was rigid and most underwriting and policy management activities were strictly offline and manual activities—prohibiting Lavalier from achieving its growth and scalability targets.
Solution
A serverless AWS-based solution was architected in order to achieve compliance, scalability, and performance targets. The solution uses a custom API from our insurtech partner Socotra, and integrates with more than seven other external systems to perform its rating, communication, and verification functions would be automated and nearly instantaneous. These external integrations include:
- Front end NuxtJS framework
- Stripe for payment processing
- Salesforce service and marketing cloud for various marketing and customer service functions
- Truepic for photo authentication
- A custom integration with a partner’s e-commerce api to facilitate expedited applications.
- Socotra Policy management System as the source of truth for policyholder and policy data.
- Custom SSO integration with client’s proprietary identity management system
In addition to optimizing the back-end of this system, usability tests played a key role in continuously improving the experience for customers, underwriters, and other stakeholders using these systems.
Results
As a result of the work ETR and Lavalier did together, more than 20 time-intensive processes became automated. The team created self-service options for customer policy management, underwriter policy and exposure approvals, and affiliate performance tracking and management.
Signifying the project’s success, Lavalier announced a partnership with Signet in September of 2022 to be the sole provider of insurance for jewelry purchased from leading Signet banners Jared®, KAY Jewelers® and Zales®. To learn more and utilize the instant quote functionality, consumers can visit participating Signet banner websites at Lavalier.com/Jared, Lavalier.com/Kay or Lavalier.com/Zales.
Two months later, Lavalier also announced a partnership with Progressive Insurance to provide best-in-class jewelry protection. Consumers shopping through Progressive can now obtain instant quotes by just entering a few pieces of information and their zip code.
